When everything is listed as sold out: We are a mail-order nursery, we ship your trees, shrubs and vines in spring of each year to your doorstep. Ordering takes place each year between November 1st and May 1st. Items are listed as ‘sold out’ when the website is closed for orders during the summer season.

Some cultivars are sold out: As an artisanal nursery, we offer rare and unique trees, and some items are popular and have limited quantities. To ensure you get the tree you want, we strongly encourage you to order sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment, with orders starting on November 1st.

Searching for something specific? Feel free to use the Search Tool in the top right corner, or at the bottom of the webpage: for example: Type ‘Dwarf’ in the textbox and all the dwarf trees will show up!

Type in ‘New Release’ to see which cultivars we added this year.

Type in 'Zone 2' to find the cultivars hardy for zone 2.

The Search Tool is a great option to quickly find what you are looking for!

Bare root trees are the superior choice for growing and transplanting.

Firstly, they are grown healthily with their roots free and not restricted or root-bound as they would be in pots. In living soil, the root mass can form symbiotic relationships with beneficial bacteria and fungi compared to potted trees that are typically grown in sterile environments subject to irrigation and fertilizers.

Lastly, due to the young nature of our trees there is a less likely chance of transplant shock, which more mature trees are prone to. You can read more about our trees here

Simply put: you determine your Hardiness Zone, soil quality and space. You select the cultivars (and select the proper pollinators if applicable) and add them to your cart. Upon payment you will receive a confirmation email - make sure you find this and that you are receiving our emails!

We will have 4 shipping dates to choose from, we send you an email by the middle of April to select your date: trees are shipped dormant and should be planted as soon as possible for your climate. Because each year is different, you choose the perfect date in April.

Your order gets expertly packed and shipped with a tracking number to your PO Box or doorstep!

We have a whole page dedicated to explaining the whole process: feel free to check it out here so you can feel confident when purchasing from Prairie Hardy Nursery!

Each year after we have shipped out all your orders Canada-wide, we pot up the bare root trees for local sale - we offer a pick up in Sherwood Park, Calgary and at the nursery near Two Hills, Alberta.

We offer competitive pricing on our quality stock between June - September. Trees are limited to stock available. First come first served. Email us to inquire about this sale.

YES! Dear local friends, we can accommodate a local pick-up on the following terms: you go ahead and place your order, and yes you will pay the shipping cost (this will be refunded after pick-up).

For Local Pick-Ups, please email us so we can make a note on your file! Spring shipping season is incredibly busy for us, so you must be available to pick up during certain times/days. You must be able to pick up at the nursery. The address is only shared right before pick-up time. Because we are incredibly busy during shipping season (which is also our grafting, digging, planting and propagating season) we cannot give any tours. Just a quick pick-up to save you the shipping cost. This service is only available to customers who live in Two Hills and surrounding counties.

Life gets busy, if you cannot pick them up after all we will ship them out as this is often the quickest, easiest and most cost-effective manner to get your trees to you! Either way, we will communicate this with you and find the option that suits you best.

A refund for the shipping cost will thus be refunded after pick-up has occurred.

Option 1: The easiest way is simply by emailing us what you would like to add exactly, we can easily do that from our end and email an updated invoice to you.

Option 2: Alternatively, you could place a second order, and we can refund the shipping cost difference to you after shipping has occurred. PLEASE EMAIL US to notify us that you placed two orders you wish you combine. We keep a close eye on our orders but to ensure we don't miss your first order placed in November and the second one placed in February as two to be combined, we ask you to please email us so we can confirm that this will happen for you!

The difference in shipping cost will be refunded to you once the items have shipped.

Shipping to BC

Due to strict CFIA regulations, we are prohibited from importing certain cultivars to BC (like apple trees), therefore you will not be able to order these specific cultivars (it will give you an error message at checkout). We still have loads of great items you can order.

Email us anytime at prairiehardynursery@gmail.com if you have further questions or inquiries - we are happy to help.
