Northern Select Hazelnut

The Northern Select Hazelnut is deliciously nutty and rich in flavour that averages 1.5 to 2 cm (3/4") in size. It is a hybrid between the American Hazelnut (Corylus americana) and the European Hazelnut (Corylus avellana).

 Northern Select Hazelnuts ripen from late August to early September. Developed by Les Kerr and grown in Saskatchewan, these seedlings are disease-resistant and boast high productivity. Each individual seedling can exhibit its own combination of nut and tree characteristics, and will typically grow in shrub form. After planting, growers can expect to harvest within 3-4 years.

Perfect for orchards, yard sites, or food forests, Northern Select Hazelnuts are a great addition to any landscape.

 Growers Note: Hazelnuts should be harvested before the squirrels get them, try checking by mid-August and harvest hazels when the husks start to brown. Alternatively installing a metal fence around the bush might keep your nut stash safe as well.
