Canadian Plum
Canadian Plum
The Canadian Plum is mainly used as the native pollinator tree planted alongside your favourite hybrid plum variety to ensure that your other plum trees give you a more bountiful harvest!
The Canadian Plums are yellow-red blushed and they ripen in September. These plums average around 3 cm (1 1/4') in size and are good for fresh eating but are even better for making preserves. The skin is a little thick but the flesh is quite delicious.
Native to Eastern Canada yet growing as far west as Manitoba, the Canadian Plum tree has a longer flowering cycle and excellent pollen volume to effectively pollinate other plum trees. Hybrids do flower but have a poor pollen count, if your mature plum trees are not producing fruit the Canadian Plum will help. This one flowers later than our other native American Plum.
Trees are thicket forming, have thorns and sucker freely.
